We booked one night here as it wasn’t far from the Port Everglades Cruise Port and we had a five-night cruise booked for the next day. We arrived at Miami airport after our five night stay in the Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe Hotel – Dominican Republic and picked up a Hertz rental car – there is a Hertz office near Port Everglades with a free shuttle to the port. The hotel also offers a port shuttle and we did consider taking a taxi to the hotel and then use the hotel shuttle. But a Hertz car was less expensive and also gave us more freedom.

The hotel has free parking. Check-in was smooth, although I’m not sure if I was upgraded (Hilton Gold) or not as I was on the phone at the same time. I did have free wi-fi. The room was okay though and had a nice size safe.

We went across the street for Taco Bell – having had five nights of formal dinners and expected another five on board the cruise ship.

Later I tried to get a drink from the hotel bar but it was already closed. I asked the barman if there was anywhere nearby where I could get a beer, he said that I’d have to drive to the nearest place. I was going to give up and asked the front desk if there was a soft drink vending machine. The guy on the front desk said that they have a pantry and I could choose something from there and pay him. I was surprised to find beer in their refrigerator and so I was able to sit by the pool and have the beer I wanted. Just really strange that the barman didn’t suggest that.

The breakfast buffet was quite good, with some cooked-to-order items. It turned out that the buffet was free for Hilton Gold, but reception had set me up to receive points instead of breakfast – this was partly my fault as I was distracted on the phone when checking in. They changed me from points to free breakfast.

Check out was easy. There were plenty of guests, who were obviously taking cruises, waiting for the hotel shuttle. We took our Hertz rental back and within 10 minutes we were at the cruise port.

If you are taking a cruise then this hotel is a convenient location and pretty comfortable.
