This newly-opened restaurant is part of a chain of 40-odd locations, although I’d never heard of them until this place opened.

The interior has an eclectic décor, with chandeliers, candelabras juxtaposed with exposed ceilings. It feels like a converted warehouse. Whatever they were for aiming for, it works as the place feels interesting and cosy.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. We were able to order a jug of tap water. The water glasses were a little small and I was constantly topping them up.

The Cosecha Tarapaca Merlot, Chile £19.95 was excellent. Again, the glasses were small size, basic, wine glasses and looked a bit poor sitting alongside the candelabra on our table.

We shared potato and rosemary bread with olive oil and balsamic £4.50 and although this was lovely, I think it was a bit expensive. There are many restaurants where the bread and olive oil is free.

The main courses have slightly uneven pricing. For example, the 10 oz RIBEYE @ £16.95 appears more expensive than pan-fried sea bass @ £11.95 – but the steak comes with skin on fries and if you want them with the sea bass you need to pay £2.95.

We waited over an hour for our main courses to arrive, although we hadn’t noticed the time while talking, except to feel slightly tipsy from all wine and no food. The manager came (unprompted by us) and apologised for some mix up in the kitchen and offered us free desserts.

The main courses and subsequent free desserts were all very good.

The toilets were clean and functional. There were no towels, only an accelerator hand dryer. I can never understand why chain restaurants can’t afford a Dyson airblade.

I’d be happy to eat here again and especially want to try a breakfast as they have Eggs Benedict, plus another variation of Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, which if done well will be delicious.

So a reasonably good addition to the thriving Watford dining scene, which a few years ago was pretty poor. My favourite is still Barracuda as it isn’t a chain restaurant and has great steaks and fish for similar prices.
