The Holiday Inn – Kingston South is located on the river about a mile away from Kingston. It’s about 15 minutes walk to Surbiton and the main line railway station. So if you aren’t driving and have luggage then you’ll need a taxi. Parking is free.

The front desk staff are polite and helpful – they allowed me to check in early and also have a late checkout.

The standard rooms are small and don’t have a room safe – that was a big disappointment to me as almost everyone has something they would like to store in a safe. The wardrobe space is small – maybe space for four items.

The aircon and other electrics only operate while the room key is inserted into a slot – so that means that on hot or cold days, you aren’t able to maintain the room temperature unless you cheat and insert a spare card.

There was tea and coffee in the room but no biscuits.

I couldn’t get the internet to work and used my own mobile roaming.

It was very windy during my stay and that disturbed my sleep until I found that there is a vent high at the top of the window that can be closed manually.

As the weather was so bad, I asked for a taxi to take me to Surbiton. For this journey, a 15 minute walk, the driver charged £10 which is a complete rip-off. And I then remembered that I was similarly overcharged on my last stay.

The breakfast was pretty good and was open until 10:30 at the weekend.

I’d stay here again – just must remember not to order a taxi from the front desk.
