Laura a její tygři (Laura and her Tigers) are a Czech band that have been around for over 28 years. 20 years ago they were regulars at Lucerna Music Bar, a large underground club just off Wenceslas Square in Prague and I was a regular at their gigs.

The band has a large line up, with a large brass section and ‘Laura’ (also known as Lenka Nova) and another male singer up front. The brass section wear white shirts and black ties. The closest Western band is Madness.

Karel Šůcha is the bandmaster and one of the brass section – as a result, Laura/Lenka Nova and her companion singer have changed several times over the years. For me, the ‘real’ Laura is the one I first saw 20 years ago, together with a tall bald male singer. There was a reunion a few years ago where all the Lauras got together. My Laura is the blonde in the white tie.

Now there is a new Laura and the band have made a promotional video that features many parts of Prague:

And the band return to Lucerna Music bar on Wednesday 22nd March at 21:00 (doors at 21:00). Tickets are 200Kc in advance or 250Kc on the night.

They are still a great band, even though they’re a little bit like a tribute band to me without my favourite line up – you’re still sure to have a good night out.
