MEGACON Orlando is the South East’s largest comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming event, attracting over 100,000 fans each year across four big days.
It’s what the guys on the Big Bang Theory refer to as comiccon.
Megacon Orlando managed to secure several of the cast of Back to the Future, including Michael J Fox. As well as the usual photo and autograph packages, they arranged a theatre event – an evening with the cast of Back to the Future. MegaCon required those attending the evening to purchase admission for $20 – so we decided to go a few hours before the BTTF evening and look around.
Parking was $17 although we arrived mid afternoon and they only changed us $10. We then had to go to a booth and exchange our tickets for passes. We were then told that we had to go online and validate our passes – there was free (slow) wifi to do this. It took a few minutes and seemed like a complete waste of time – why can’t the booth just validate the pass?
The convention was what you’d expect; cosplay, memorabilia stalls and lines for paid star signatures.
Here’s a video from just walking around – and I really didn’t set out to walk behind Thor and his half-naked girlfriend, it just worked out that way.
My friend, Bruce Coulombe was there with his Back to the Future DeLorean, Pizza Planet delivery van and ET set. I was so busy taking to him and his family that I completely forgot to take any pictures of his stand.
Here are some random photos from the event:
The Wall-E was so good that I shot some video.
Suddenly it was time to go to the theatre for the BTTF event.
Those that love these events will always go and why not, it’s harmless fun.
I did find someone who posted a YouTube video about MegaCon that included Tom Wilson taking the camera phone and interacting with the other BTTF actors.
