The British movie ‘Yesterday’ is about a man who wakes up to find that he’s the only person who remembers the Beatles and their music. I think the ‘inspiration’ for the story came from the British TV show ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’. And I’ll demonstrate that here.

The plot of the movie ‘Yesterday’ from IMDB.com:

A struggling musician realizes he’s the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles after waking up in an alternate timeline where they never existed.

The movie screenplay was written by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Love Actually, and About Time). And much as I love Richard’s movies, I’m guessing he wishes that he’d woken up to find that he was the only person who remembers the excellent TV show called ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’.

The plot of Goodnight Sweetheart from IMDB.com:

British sitcom in which an unhappily married man discovers he can time travel back to 1940s war-torn London where he masquerades as an MI5 agent and part-time songwriter whilst courting the local barmaid.

Gary Sparrow realises that he can play songs from the future that nobody has heard before. Here is his rendition of ‘When I’m 64!’.

‘Yesterday’ looks like it could be a good movie, but I think Richard Curtis and Director, Danny Boyle should credit what was obviously their inspiration.
