Muir Woods is a great place to see giant redwoods when visiting to San Francisco – and you get to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
We were staying in the Hilton Financial District in Chinatown and drove to Muir Woods. I booked and paid for parking about a month before on this site: https://gomuirwoods.com/
We also had our America the Beautiful National Parks pass for entry.
The route to Muir Woods took us over the Golden Gate Bridge.
After crossing the bridge, the area is immediately quiet and residential – it looks like a nice place to live. We drove up a winding road and then found the Muir Woods parking area where we showed our parking pass.
It was a short walk to the entrance. There was a kiosk somewhere nearby where we showed our National Parks pass.
The woods are spectacular.
Here’s a short video to give you a feeling of the atmosphere.
Apparently there aren’t any bears wandering around Muir Woods. There aren’t any mosquitoes either.
I would say Muir Woods is easily as good as the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias in Yosemite. If you’re visiting San Francisco, a visit to Muir Woods should definitely be on your list.
