The swinging bridge was originally constructed in early 1875 by the Short family, whose land was divided by the Arroyo Grande Creek. The bridge spans a total length 171 feet and is suspended 40 feet above the creek.
We were staying in the Hampton Inn, Arroyo Grande as part of our drive along Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I searched for things to see in Arroyo Grande and the swinging bridge came up as an option. We found the bridge reasonably easily.
It was smaller than we excepted, but as we’d bothered to find it, the least we could do is walk across it.
The bridge did indeed swing a little bit.
What can I say? If you happen to find yourself in Arroyo Grande, then why not visit the swinging bridge.
