Na Kopci translates as ‘on the hill’ and that exactly describes it’s position on the Brabenec Hill in Prague 5. To get there you need to take a bus, taxi or drive – but is it worth the climb?
The short answer is yes, absolutely. I think this could be my favourite restaurant in Prague. The Michelin Bib Gourmand is well-deserved.
The interior is cosy. The wallpaper is a montage of family photos and reflects a time before the end of Communism.
A good 0.15l glass of Argentinian Malbec was good value at 110 Kč.
We were a group of four and the total excluding tip, was 4096 Kč. Perhaps they calculate the bill using logarithms in base 8! Sorry geeked out for a second there.
Service was friendly and professional – you’ll feel comfortable at Na Kopci. I would run out of superlatives if I were to describe the amuse bouche and each of the three courses – suffice to say that everything was excellent.

Still here? Let’s talk about why I think a Michelin Bib Gourmand is better than a Michelin Star and definitely better than a Michelin Plate. A Michelin Star can be a poisoned chalice for a restaurant; staff can be stifled trying to follow a series of rules, both prices and expectations increase. Worse still can be dinner at a Michelin Plate restaurant – this is likely to be a place that tried (and is still trying) for a Star but didn’t quite make it. A Plate restaurant likely couldn’t be awarded a Bib Gourmand because the prices were too high.
Bib Gourmand is an indication of great food at reasonable prices and most likely a more casual atmosphere.
There are four Bib Gourmand restaurants in Prague:
Na Kopci – a perfect example.
Divinis – I’ve never been to this Italian on Týnská in the very centre of Prague. However, when I click on ‘wine list’ from the Divinis webpage, I see this message:
We are constantly working with the offer of wines and we choose the best wines for you, so we will be happy to present the current wine offer right in the restaurant. Thank you for your understanding.
So I’m not going until I know what they will charge.
Sansho – I do like Sansho and wrote about it here. My only reason to disagree with the Bib Gourmand is that you are forced to order the entire dégustation menu in the evening – I just want to order two courses. I’m starting to think the dégustation concept has become outdated.
Eska – I’ve never visited and don’t plan to. Friends have reported that the food is nice but expensive. Their wine list looks overpriced and the cheapest wine by glass is 155 Kč. I’m actually surprised that they were awarded a Bib Gourmand.
