Wyndham Hotels are offering ‘essential workers’ complimentary gold membership upgrades in its Wyndham Rewards loyalty programme. Sadly Gold membership doesn’t really offer that much, but it’s better than nothing.
If you use any of the 20 Wyndham brands and meet the Wyndham ‘essential worker’ definition, then you might as well apply for Gold. The definition is very wide:
For purposes of these Promotion Terms, “Eligible Member” means a Wyndham Rewards Member who, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, provides services in one or more of the following categories: healthcare operations; essential infrastructure; essential manufacturing; essential retail; news media; dispensation of basic necessities to disadvantaged populations; construction; defense; maintenance of safety, sanitation and/or essential operations of residences or other essential business; any/or other provision of essential products or services (including, without limitation, logistics and technology support).
I think you could enter almost any job title into this field and qualify:
So you can claim Gold as your conscience allows.
So what does Wyndham Rewards Gold get you?
Wyndham Rewards is free to join and just by joining you get free perks, the most important of which is probably free wi-fi. So I’ll just list the benefits of moving up a tier to Gold (usually earned after five nights):
Late checkout, a dedicated member services line, preferred rooms, accelerated points earning and members-only discounts.
The main benefit seems like Late checkout.
One potential benefit could have been that you were closer to Platinum status (usually earned after fifteen nights), but after being awarded Gold, my account showed I was still 15 nights away:
Platinum is a status worth having as that adds Early Check-in, Avis/Budget car rental upgrades and best of all, a status match to Caesars Rewards Platinum.
I don’t want to be cynical but…
This offer is too easy to sign up for and offers very little. It could just be a way for Wyndham to sign up new members during the economic crisis that has hit hotels very badly. Not that you’d know that when reading this quote:
“We’re humbled to honour such a deserving group of individuals: everyday people who have been performing herculean tasks in the face of danger,” said Geoff Ballotti, president and CEO of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “This is one small way we can help make their next trip—whether it be to visit loved ones, friends, or simply to get away—as special as it deserves to be. They’ve earned it.”
The Wyndham family of brands includes: Wyndham Grand, Wyndham, Dolce, Tryp, Esplendor, Dazzler, Trademark, Wingate, Wyndham Garden, Ramada, Baymont, Microtel, Days Inn, Super 8, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, Knights Inn, and Hawthorn.
