Dresden is an attractive, lively and safe town. The Hilton Dresden is perfectly located on the River Elbe and just 15 minutes walk from the main train station.

The lobby is large as it also includes the restaurant used for the breakfast buffet.
The reception desk clerk was really friendly and spoke English. I’d booked a standard room and was, of course, hoping for something better. When I was handed the keys, the clerk didn’t mention anything about the room and so I asked if he’d been able to upgrade the room. He said it was just a standard room, did some checking and then offered us a corner room on the second floor. As it was, I discovered that the fourth floor, where our original room was to be, is the executive floor – so I think I was upgraded anyway. Still, it never hurts to ask and the corner room was better.
The room had all that you would expect from a higher-category Hilton room; bathrobes, slippers, digital safe, comfortable bed, working a/c, clean, bathroom with some amenities, plus free wi-fi for Hilton Gold/Diamond. The wi-fi was good in the room and around the hotel.
There was a UK plug socket available as well as the standard European sockets. Sadly, there were no USB sockets.
The view from the side window was lovely.
As was the main river view window. I’d recommend a corner room if you can get one.
The First Floor Executive Lounge was closed – instead an area in the bar was allocated.
There was plenty of wine, beer and soft drinks available (between 5 and 8pm although it was still there when I passed at 9pm) and each guest was offered a snack plate. It wasn’t a bad effort and I realise times have been hard for the hotel industry, but there must come a time when Hiltons re-open their Executive Lounges. The excellent Hilton Malta never closed their lounge.
The pool was quiet – a negative Covid test or proof of vaccination were required to gain access. The pool was also deep and pretty cold – but it’s nice to have a facility in such as central town location.
Breakfast was served both in the main lobby restaurant and also on the first floor. Masks had to be worn while visiting the buffet. A plastic glove was provided, with the expectation that this would be used when touching ladles etc. However, it quickly became obvious that this was a waste of time – people would remove the glove with their clean hand and then replace it for a subsequent visit, with now both hand and glove contaminated. The only way this would work would be if the glove was single use – remove by pulling inside out, dispose, take fresh glove. There wasn’t a cooked-to-order omelette station – I didn’t ask for an omelette, so maybe it’s possible to order one.
Dresden is a lovely little town and the Hilton is good value, comfortable place to stay – I’d certainly stay there again.
The Hilton Dresden is now 10th on the BugAdvisor.com list of Hilton Hotels and Resorts.
