Pescara is a lively city on the Adriatic. Idillio – Your Luxury Rooms is an adults-only, oasis of calm and luxury from where you can visit the beach, swim in the sea and eat delicious food.

We flew into the tiny Pescara Airport, were outside within minutes and greeted by Michele, the owner of Idillio – free airport transfers are offered to guests.

Within 15 minutes, we were at the entrance to the building.

We took the elevator to the fourth floor. There are just three guest rooms; Otium Deluxe, Lettera Suite and Linea Suite. We stayed in Otium for two nights and Lettera for two nights.

Otium is a comfortable, modern room, with aircon, fluffy bathrobes, free (well-stocked) minibar, coffee maker, safe (passport and phone sized), good wi-fi, bag with beach towels and a designer bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean and perfectly branded with the Idillio harp logo.

Michele was really friendly and invited us for a welcome drink and some delicious antipasti. He then took us on a small tour; 100m down the street to the beach, where guests have access to a swimming pool and more importantly, dedicated sunbeds at the water’s edge.

The sea (end of July) was warm and calm on most days. There are plenty of beach restaurants that you can visit for lunch. We weren’t bothered by any wasps nor flies on the beach, nor when eating lunch outside.

We didn’t use the pool – it was often busy with kids and a swimming cap was required.

That evening we discovered an excellent restaurant, Le Maschere, in Pescara’s old town about a 1.5km walk away. There are plenty of closer places, but Le Maschere where had the best food. We didn’t notice any mosquitoes in the evening.

On our return, we could see the Idillio illuminated balcony blinds.

Breakfast is served in the Convivium, comprising an air-conditioned room and outdoor terrace with three tables. The selection was amazing with fresh juices, sweet pastries, local fruits, meats and cheeses.

We met the lovely Monica, who made us soup-bowl-sized cups of cappuccino and for whom nothing was too much trouble. Each day she made a different special, such as pancakes or tiramisu.

The other guests were a sophisticated mix of nationalities; German, Danish and Czech. We asked the Czech couple, who were staying in Linea, about the jacuzzi that was listed as being on their terrace. Michele pressed a button and the wall retracted to reveal the jacuzzi.

After two nights, we were excited to move into Lettera. The suite was beautiful, with a sofa, dining table, kitchen, larger bathroom and much larger terrace.

The terrace had a table and two chairs. Only item we would like added is somewhere to hang and secure wet beach towels and swimwear.

All too soon, it was time to leave and Michele was there ready to drive us back to the airport.

We will certainly return to visit Idillio again. Michele has clearly done everything he can to make this oasis as comfortable as possible. I’d definitely recommend paying extra for the Lettera suite.
