The Hilton Garden Inn Riga is an excellent hotel, with a perfect location, great staff and modern rooms. We stayed five nights for only 80,000 Hilton Points and were sad to leave.
We took a number 22 bus from the airport to a stop called ’11.novembra krastmala’ which is just across the bridge from the modern National Library building – that stop is close to the Riga old town and less than a five-minute walk to the Hilton.
The lobby is modern.
Check in was friendly and professional. The desk agent apologised that they weren’t able to upgrade us as the hotel was full. I’d checked availability prior to our arrival and there were no higher category rooms available. It’s also harder to be upgraded on longer stays as the higher category room needs to be available for the entire stay. I asked if our room had bathrobes – it didn’t. I cheekily asked if we could have bathrobes and the agent said that she would arrange that – so nice of her. We were given a voucher for two drinks at the bar – two bottles of water were also left in our room fridge each day. Breakfast was included as part of my Hilton Diamond benefits.
Our King Room 428 was on the 4th floor and had unusual windows.
To the right we could see the viewing platform of St. Peter’s Church.
We visited the church the next day and took this view of the hotel.
There were plenty of USB sockets; either side of the bed and below the TV. The air con worked better than most hotels. The TV had about four English channels. There was a safe, iron, ironing board, fridge and kettle with tea and coffee.
The wi-fi was fast, reliable and stayed connected for the entire duration of our stay.
The bathroom was perfect.
On weekdays, during working hours, we could see people in the building opposite – I’m pretty sure they could see us as well. If that is an issue, then ask for a higher floor or room facing the street – a street view could be noisy from cars and late-night revellers.
Breakfast was an expansive buffet with plenty of hot and cold items.
Omelettes and waffles were cooked to order.
All the staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English.
Our favourite restaurant, Locale, was just a two-minute walk away.
I’d recommend the Hilton Garden Inn to anyone visiting Riga. It’s great value at 20,000 points or an average of €100 per night. As with all Hilton points redemptions, if you book five nights, you only pay for four – that’s why our five-night stay was only 80,000.
