Dresden is an attractive, lively and safe town. The Hilton Dresden is perfectly located on the River Elbe and just a 15-minute walk from the main train station.
This video shows the hotel and a corner room, where we stayed on our first visit.
This video shows a duplex suite, where we stayed on our second and third visit.
The lobby is large as it also includes the restaurant used for the breakfast buffet.
The reception desk clerk was really friendly and spoke English.
On our first visit, I’d booked a standard room and was, of course, hoping for something better. When I was handed the keys, the clerk didn’t mention anything about the room and so I asked if he’d been able to upgrade the room. He said it was just a standard room, did some checking and then offered us a corner room on the second floor. As it was, I discovered that the fourth floor, where our original room was to be, is the executive floor – so I think I was upgraded anyway. Still, it never hurts to ask and the corner room was better.
On our second and third visits, I again booked a standard room and was hoping for the corner room, instead we were upgraded to a duplex suite.
Corner Room
The room had all that you would expect from a higher-category Hilton room; bathrobes, slippers, digital safe, comfortable bed, working a/c, clean, bathroom with some amenities, plus free wi-fi for Hilton Gold/Diamond. The wi-fi was good in the room and around the hotel.
There was a UK plug socket available as well as the standard European sockets. Sadly, there were no USB sockets.
The view from the side window was lovely.
As was the main river view window. I’d recommend a corner room if you can get one.
Duplex Suite
The duplex suite is an interesting design. You enter into a downstairs room with sofa, chair and TV.
The view from the small window wasn’t anything exciting.
In the corner of the room is a spiral staircase.
At the top of the staircase is a bedroom, bathroom and raised floor with dining table and desk.
The view was more interesting – sadly this wasn’t a terrace and could only be used in case of emergency.
The bathroom was clean and modern – just a bath with shower and not a separate shower.
The suite had all that you would expect from a higher-category Hilton room; bathrobes, slippers, digital safe, comfortable bed, working a/c, clean, bathroom with some amenities, plus free wi-fi for Hilton Gold/Diamond. The wi-fi was good in the room and around the hotel. Sadly, no USB sockets.
Executive Lounge
The First Floor Executive Lounge has no re-opened – was previously an area of the downstairs restaurant.
The lounge is a good size and comfortable.
In some ways, I miss the lounge area in the restaurant. The staff were good and it was convenient to pay for a dinner while enjoying free drinks.
Pool
The pool is deep and pretty cold – but it’s nice to have a facility in such as central town location.
Breakfast
Breakfast was served in the main lobby restaurant. It’s not terrible, but there’s nothing special about the buffet offering.
Overall
Dresden is a lovely little town and the Hilton is good value if you can snag a rate around the 100 Euro mark. It’s a comfortable place to stay and is our regular hotel whenever in Dresden..
