The Hilton Doubletree is a short walk to Lisbon’s Saldanha metro station, a 20-minute ride to the airport and a few stops to the old town. Unfortunately, someone decided to paint the entire interior of the hotel black.

Here is the corridor leading to our room.

Luckily, our room was on a high floor with a large window and balcony.

Those on the lower decks of this dystopian nightmare aren’t so lucky.

The king bed was comfortable. There was a safe and empty fridge. The Wi-Fi worked well.

The bathroom, also black, albeit with white bath, sink and towels.

Downstairs is a bar with an outside courtyard.

The breakfast buffet was pretty good and included the famous pasteis de nata (custard puff pastry tarts).

The only HHonors Diamond recognition was two bottles of water in the room each day and free breakfast – they may have considered the large-windowed room an upgrade. At our only other Doubletree stay in Kingston-upon-Thames, England, we were upgraded and given drinks vouchers.

All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Despite the convenient location, I doubt that I would choose to stay at this property again. The decor isn’t to my taste – it would suit actor, Crispin Glover really well as he adopted the same colour scheme for his Czech chateau. On my next visit to Lisbon, I’ll try The Emerald House Lisbon, Curio Collection by Hilton.
