Terra Nostra is a stunningly beautiful botanical garden on São Miguel Island in The Azores. Visitors are invited to swim in a large thermal pool filled with volcanic water from the hot springs.
The large thermal pool is rich in iron and other minerals, hence the colour – good for the skin apparently.
There are also two Jacuzzis with clear and also hotter water.
The gardens are currently open to the public from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm (admission €10). Guests of the Terra Nostra Garden Hotel have free 24-hour access. We were able to access the thermal pools and Jacuzzis after closing – while having dinner in the hotel restaurant, we watched as other guests headed out for a late-night swim.
You can spend several hours wandering the gardens. The following video was taken on our visit 1st December 2022.
