Opened at the end of 2021, Ansámbl is a casual bistro serving elevated dishes created from seasonal local produce.

The bistro is just around the corner from the Krymská tram stop – tram number 22 tram takes about ten minutes from the centre of Prague.

The interior design is fresh and modern. There is a mezzanine floor that results in two low-ceiling spaces. My only complaint is that all those hard surfaces make the place echoey – I can imagine it can get noisy when full.

We sat upstairs.

Our waiter was really friendly and knowledgeable about both the food and wine. He also brought a (free) carafe of tap water to our table as soon as we arrived. The wine list focuses on organic wines from the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. As a result, I didn’t recognise any of them! Our waiter suggested an Austrian Zweigelt red wine, which was pretty good and compared well to a Merlot or Malbec (what I would have normally ordered). And was a good price at 65 Kč for 0.1l – although I wonder why this new trend of 0.1l instead of 0.15l measures for red wine started. A glass of German Von Winning Secco Blanc was actually better than most Proseccos – 120 Kč for 0.1l.

Ansámbl’s philosophy is to offer smaller plates so diners can sample more than one dish. We started with roast beef, served in a homemade brioche, with horseradish mayonnaise plus a cheese sauce (229 Kč). I didn’t need any elaborate presentation, although I had expected it to be presented in a more ‘chefy’ way. Luckily it was really delicious – I made the mistake of picking mine up like a burger and got my fingers covered in the sauce.

Next, we had the fried chicken, with a little gem lettuce salad, ranch dressing and pickled vegetables (199 Kč). The chef really elevated this dish – the chicken was juicy and the salad dressing made for the best little gem lettuce I’ve eaten.

With those two dishes we were surprisingly full. If you’re looking for interesting, but still delicious, food at good prices, then Ansámbl is worth a visit.
