Trattoria Ai Cacciatori is one of the many restaurants that line the Giudecca canal on Giudecca Island. The views across to Venice are amazing, especially when it’s warm enough to dine outside.

Giudecca is a beautiful, quiet island. We stayed at the nearby Hilton Molino Stucky Venice which is a perfect location for exploring Venice, but benefits from being on Giudecca. We were recommended Trattoria Ai Cacciatori by the nearby Majer Restaurant, which is closed on Tuesdays and we needed somewhere else to visit.

We sat on an outside table by the Giudecca canal. I found a few mosquito bites the next day, but not so many considering I had a short-sleeved shirt and no repellent. They also didn’t seem attracted to the large illuminated egg on our table.

The staff were friendly. A glass of Barbera was 6 EUR. Small bottle of the Italian soft drink Crodino 4 EUR. A bottle of water was free.

The scallops starter (20 EUR) was delicious – just difficult to photograph in the dark, next to a large shining egg.

The fish of day (20 EUR) was much better than it looks in this picture – I’m assuming they would fillet on request.

We had a side of grilled vegetables (6 EUR).

The only average plate was a side of fried potatoes (4 EUR), which were nothing special.

We’d certainly consider returning to Trattoria Ai Cacciatori on a Tuesday when our first choice, Majer, is closed.
