Just a short walk from the South Terminal, the Hilton Gatwick Airport is ideal for both pre-departure and post-arrival stays. The hotel is huge, so be prepared to walk after check in and become lost in the labyrinth of corridors.

I always arrive via a pedestrian tunnel that connects to the South Terminal entrance. If you arrive by car, the entrance is at the other side of the hotel.

The lobby, bar and restaurant have been refurbished and the place looks much better.

As a Hilton Diamond member, I have previously been upgraded to ‘Executive Rooms’ in a block quite a long walk from reception. It sounds like that block is being refurbished, together with the Executive lounge. As a result, I was assigned a standard, refurbished, room and provided with a voucher for free ‘house’ drinks and food from the bar. My son, who is Gold, had the same room, but no voucher – Golds only have lounge access if upgraded to, or booked in, an Executive room.

The labyrinth of corridors can be confusing, despite the room number signs.

It was good to see my room had been refurbished – I made a short video of the room here.

The option to use the voucher at the bar was actually much better than the lounge, which was always pretty poor. We were able to order multiple beers, house wine and two decent meals without charge, during the 6 – 8 pm ‘happy hour’ period.

Two weeks later, I returned from an overnight flight and stayed, in an identical room, from 9 am to 4.30 pm on a day-room rate – latest checkout is 6 pm.

The Hilton Gatwick is a decent airport hotel and I’ll likely stay there again. However, staying a Gatwick Airport is all about price and convenience. Check our reviews for the Bloc Hotel South Terminal and the Hampton by Hilton North Terminal.
